โฆ Synopsis
A michrochannel plate detector has been used to image tritium-labeled protein on oneand two-dimensional electrophoresis gels. The good spatial resolution (70 microns) and high sensitivity (6.0 dpm/mm 2 ) of the imaging system allows detection of low levels (femto moles) of labelled proteins. We are currently using the detector for identification of new targets involved in organophosphate neurotoxicity.

Identification and detection limits for scanning and non-scanning mass spectrometers are discussed. It is theoretically deduced and experimentally confirmed that these limits are on the lowpico-and femtogram levels, respectively, when using conventional secondary electron multiplier-amplifier system
