✦ Synopsis

The Ratnan spectra of molten LiN03, LiClO.+ and mixtures of the two salts are reported. All bands appear tc arise from highly localized vibrational modes. The opectral features of molten LiNO3 can be accounted for by the hppothesis that two non-equivalent environments ara available to the nitrate ion.

The interdiffusion coefficient of thallous ion in molten lithium nitrate has heen measured by wave-front-shearing interferometry. The results are obtained in a region of low Tl+ concentration and can be summarized with an Arrhenius equation D = (3.95 & 1.14) x IO-' exp{-(6780 & 330)/RT}, (262-354"C)
