Abstract

Raman spectra are reported of potential dependent surface species on an unroughened platinum electrode in 1.0 M H~2~SO~4~, 10^−3^ M KI. The results obtained using signal‐averaging and ‘line imaging’ of the laser are contrasted with previously reported spectra obtained using platinized high‐surface‐area electrodes and ‘spot imaging’ of the laser. Spectra are interpreted in term of ‘crystal‐like’ and ‘gas‐like’ I~2~ and adsorbed I^−^~3~ on the surface of the platinum electrode.
