β¦ Synopsis
To investigate the problem of the 'flat continuum' in the normal state Raman scattering from single crystals of YBa2Cu307 (YBCO), the value of the intraband Raman crosssection from possible plasmon excitations in the crystal has been obtained and compared with the Raman crosssection for the unscreened part of the single-particle electronic excitations. It is found that only in the highly collision-dominated regime, it is possible to obtain closeto-flat continuum, as a contribution from heavily damped plasmon excitations in the system involving extrem~ jr large values of the normal state collision frequency Wc(W).
