The phase transition in the octafluoronaphthalene crystal is investkated by Raman spectroscopy. Major changes take place in the phonon region while the intramolecular vlkations show only mild effects. The results obtained here are not consistent with the previously reported mechanism of the phase transition. The possl%le nature of the phase transition is discussed to esplain present observations
