✦ Synopsis


Strong photodissociation in the visible of neutral (CO,),, n< 20, clusters produced by supersonic expansion and detected by electron ionization/attachment mass spectrometry is reported. Raman-induced dissociation (RIP) is suggested to be responsible for the occurrence of this phenomenon. The corresponding cross section is estimated to be in the order of lo-*O m*.

The photodissociation of (CO\*), and Ar, clusters has been investigated in a crossed-beams experiment, by means of the timeresolved opto-thermal technique. Clusters have been irradiated using both non-resonant visible and resonant infrared radiation (for (CO,), only). The cross section for visible p
