✦ Synopsis

The Raman bandwidths of the in-phase mode in pinacol hexahydrate and piperazine hexahydrate with twom 1 dimensionally hydrogen-bonded networks were observed below room temperature. The changes in the bandwidth with temperature were analysed on the basis of the scattering of the in-phase mode by low-wavenumber phonons m 1 through the anharmonic coupling. The results are compared with those for ice Ih and the di †erence in the scattering process between the present systems and ice Ih is discussed.
