The Raman and infrared spectra have been investigated: they are consistent with the proposed space monoclinic system [a = 7.4347(5) A ห, b = 5.6270(5) A ห, c = 9.4919(5) A ห, ฮฒ = 90.870(6)ยฐ, Z = 2, space group P2 1 /m].
## Abstract The optical absorption spectrum of trivalent erbium in single crystals of yttrium arsenate is measured in the range from 15000 to 29000 cm^โ1^ and analysed with a crystal field of 42m symmetry. The values of the five crystal field parameters of the arsenate are compared with those of th
