✦ Synopsis
Polarized Raman spectra of the new weak ferroelectric crystal cyclohexane-1,1 -diacetic acid [C 6 H 10 (CH 2 COOH) 2 ] were studied in the temperature range 300-420 K and spectral range 10-3500 cm -1 . Wavenumbers of external modes were compared with the modes observed in far-infrared transmission spectra. Temperature evolution of the spectra confirms the order-disorder character of the phase transition at T c = 397 K and C 2/c symmetry of the paraelectric phase. Strong disorder in the paraelectric phase is reflected through the central (relaxation) modes observed in both A g and B g spectra above T c . These central modes exhibit non-critical behaviour near T c .
