Abstract
A study is made of the rainfall occurring at four British stations on occasions when they lie beneath the jet stream. The mean distribution of rainfall in relation to the jet stream provides evidence, in agreement with dynamical theory, for a direct circulation at the jet entrance and an indirect circulation at the jet exit. Precipitation patterns found for uniform currents provide no satisfactory evidence with regard to the preferred vertical circulations within the central region of the jet stream.
