## Abstract The MΓΆssbauer emission spectrum of ^57^Co in CoFe~2~O~4~ is reported. Electron capture leads to the formation of ^57^Fe^3+^ substituting ^57^Co^2+^. The stabilization of the aliovalent charge state is consistent with an electrostatic model.
