✦ Synopsis
Proton-and deuteron-induced nuclear reactions which produce radioactivities are surveyed. Reactions with up to 10-MeV protons or deuterons on carbon, aluminum (#6061), titanium-alloy, stainless steel (#304), and brass targets are identified. For each target material, the nuclear reaction, associated radioactivity, half-life, and decay products are tabulated. Measured cross sections from the published literature are used to determine reaction yields for producing radioactivities. Proton-and deuteroninduced reactions which emit the following products are considered: neutrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, 3 He, and a particles. For protons, thick-target yields are evaluated for (p, n) reactions on elements in these targets. For deuterons, thick-target yields are evaluated for (d, n), (d, p), and (d, a) reactions on elements for which cross sections are reported in the literature. Graphs of thick-target yield as a function of incident ion energy are presented for the more abundant elements in these targets.
