The rulers in the floating cities tighten the noose around Jared's neck as dissent brews among thewaterfolk, putting everyone he loves and protects in danger. Jared must learn how to lead and guide his people to safety. While ships from above pursue the group with powerful weapons, the fire dragons begin to bond with the waterfolk, allowing them to develop special abilities and grow their powers.
Even with his superhuman body and the increased power of bonded fire dragons, Jared and Scarlet come to a critical realization; they will never stand against the cities alone. Building alliances sends them to the far corners of the world on a quest for vengeance and justice.

"What I like most about author Richard I Hummel's worldbuilding is how innovatively he uses dragons in a science fiction context, without falling back on the tropes of epic fantasy. There's plenty of dystopian political tension for fans of adventures like The Hunger Games, but also some really great combat sequences and superhuman strength from Jared for those who prefer more of a military/action slant. The multi-genre atmosphere of the novel is further enhanced by solid writing and great pacing to keep each moment of the story moving forward, and the twists which surprise readers at the end were genuinely shocking but also cohesive and realistic to the story that came before them. As with the first book, I had a ton of fun writing this book. I think the most enjoyable part of this process has been the steady improvement between the two. Maybe I'm a bit biased, but I think this book is much strong in terms of pacing, plot, tension, character development, and dialogue. I've been able to learn so much not just from my own writing process, but the many people that provided feedback in the form of reviews or critiques. It's enabled me to write a better book and I really hope you enjoy the journey!
