Solutions of para-terphenyl in squalane have been irradiated with synchrotron radiation in the range from 6 eV to 15 keV.

Luminescence pulse-shapes and their dependence on magnetic field are compared with computer simulations of the recombination of groups of ion pairs. Singiet fractions calculated fmm the field effect agree well but the pulse-shapes do not, suggesting that luminescence quenching is a major process in regions of multiple excitation,
