โฆ Synopsis
RUUD ABMA, was educated as a cultural psychologist. He has been teaching and writing on various topics from an interdisciplinary and historical perspective. He wrote a book on the history of the psychological laboratory at the University of Nijmegen (1983). In 1985 he joined the department of Youth Studies at Utrecht University, and wrote a Ph.D. thesis on 'Youth and Counter Culture ' (1990), combining psychological, sociological and historical perspectives. At present, his research is focused on the history of mental health care and its interrelation with cultural change. He published a chapter on this in 'Met zachte hard ' (1997) and prepares chapters on 'Mental Health' and 'Private Life for the Volume A Social History of Psychology ' (2000). He has been on the editorial board of De Psycholoog (The Psychologist) since 1997.
