2-Methylene-3-alkylthiopropanoate esters H2C=C(CO2Et)CH2SR react with triphenylphosphine in refluxing octane, in the presence of a peroxide initiator, to give 2-methylenealkanoates H2C=C(CO2Et)CH2R in moderate yields, together with triphenylphosphine sulfide.
