✦ Synopsis

Lifetime measurements were carried out on the 5p 5 6p-fine-structure levels 2 p , 2 p , and 2 p of the xenon atom by 2 4 6 beam-gas-laser spectroscopy. An accuracy of better than 1% was attained in each case. These benchmark values enable to assess the reliability of predictions of present semi-empirical calculations.
