✦ Synopsis

The spectrum of the B *2 + X*X transition of gaseous CaH appears in the orange wavelength region with the dominating band heads of the P, and P2 branches belonging to the (0,O) band at 6328 and 6389 A. A time-resolved experiment has been performed on several vibrational levels of the low lying B*Z+ state of CaH using laser excitation spectroscopy. Theoretical studies of this molecule are compared with the results of this experiment. The following lifetimes were determined for the B *x+ state of the CaH molecule: ~~,,=e = 58.1 f 1.9 ns, T,,= 1 = 58.4 + 2.2 ns and TV,= 2 = 58.5 f 2.6 ns. The corresponding absorption oscillator strengths are calculated to be fe,a = 0.105 f 0.004, f,,, = 0.104 f 0.005 and f*.

We report a time-resolved investigation of the low-lying state, B 2~, of gaseous SrF using laser spectroscopy with the following derived zero-pressure lifetime 7(B2y.(v '= 0))= 25.4\_ 0.8 ns. Such measurements constitute an important contribution to our overall understanding of excited alkaline eart
