✦ Synopsis
A suspended probe-fed L-shaped plate antenna typically with 24% impedance bandwidth is presented. Based on in¨estigations on its input impedance characteristics, experimental studies on the radiation characteristics of the L-shaped plate antenna are further conducted. Far-field radiation patterns at fi¨e typical frequencies with the passband are measured at four typical planes. Achie¨ed gains are also tested across the passband. In order to understand the radiation characteristics well, induced electric currents at the radiator surface are illustrated. The in¨estigation shows that a suspended probe-fed L-shaped plate antenna not only offers enhanced impedance bandwidth, but also possesses dual linear polarization characteristics, useful for applications in random electromagnetic wa¨e en¨ironments.

A circularly polarized CP circular patch microstrip antenna with a cross slot using an L-shaped probe fed by a microstrip line is designed and measured. With the single L-probe, the impedance bandwidth, the axial-ratio bandwidth, and the gain bandwidth are 27, ( ) 3.47, and 26%, respecti¨ely, for th
