Radiation dose measurements suggest that patients undergoing extensive neuroradiological investigations may receive a corneal dose in excess of 60 rads in tissue over a relatively short period. - There is no direct evidence that lens damage occurs in man at this level but it is important that high dose levels should be appreciated and measures taken to reduce them. Protective spectacles have been devised to effect such a reduction in two high dose procedures, namely petrous tomography and cerebral angiography, without degradation of the radiographic image.

To estimate the radiation exposure to surgical personnel caused by intraoperative radioimmunoscintimetry, we measured dose rates at different distances from patients who had been injected with 950 MBq technetium-99m-labelled intact carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA)-specific antibodies (Szintimun CEA, B
