Discussion
The solutions obtained in this note on the calorimeter problem for finite cylinders and rectangular prisms are more concise, simpler in form and easier to implement numerically than those presented previously (Hatton et al., 1982). In particular, in the evaluation of the constants D, the number of nested summations required is reduced by one, and, as in all other summations, the number of terms in each summand is also reduced. Thus, it can be anticipated that these new solutions will be more attractive computationally than are our earlier results, which in themselves had acceptable numerical convergence characteristics.
