โฆ Synopsis
An analytical solution for the transient temperature disttibution in a semitrmspmnt slab, which absorbs and scatters radiant energy, is presented for the case where re-mdiation is negligible. The equation of transfer, whose solution appears as a radiant mwce tmn in the conduction equation, is appmimated @ a polymmial. A generalized solution is developed for a slab exposed on one side to a convective environment and difuse radiant heating. The opposite side abuts an insulator, whose radiative properties are nccounted for in the solution. The resu2ts show that the e$cct of scattering within the slab and the radiative prop&is8 of the insulator are important since theg affect predicted temperature profiles greatly.
