Our experience to date suggests that radial scanning is an alternative to standard scans that offers equivalent information and decreases the time needed for a complete ultrasound examination of both breasts by 50%. TECHNIQUE A standard ultrasound examination of the breast in longitudinal and transverse planes at 5-mm intervals (Fig 1) requires 20-40 B-scan images for each breast3 for a total of 40-80 images.
