β¦ Synopsis
Radial momentum distributions I(p) are determined for the % ground state of the Li atom. The natural orbital expansion of a highly accurate Hylleraas-type function (99.90$ of the correlation energy) is used to obtain the correlated distribution. Comparison is made with various independent particle model distributions.

The electronic energy of atoms and molecules may be evaluated accurately by the use of wave functions where the interelectronic distances are explicitly present. In particular, explicitly correlated Gaussian-type functions make these types of calculations feasible and computationally tractable even

It is found that the "local kinetic energy " TV/U (T = kinetic energy operator; cp = wavefunction) is quite oo
