Melanie Klein was one of most creative and controversial contributors to psychoanalytic thinking. Spanning nearly four decades from the early 1920s until 1960, her work has had a profound influence. Kleinian views preponderate in South America and are a major force in British psychoanalysis. Moreover, Klein's contributions have influenced other psychoanalytic perspectives, providing the foundation for the development of object relations theories, and adding new concepts (e.g., projective identification)
