In short magnetic field pulses, the Hall resistivity exhibits large deformations both on the high and the low magnetic field side of the quantized Hall plateaux. A model is proposed from which we are able to reconstruct the flat plateaux by calculating the exact current through the sample under the

β¦ Synopsis
We report the suppression of the Hall e ect in a mesoscopic Hall cross with a strong magnetic ΓΏeld only in the centre and vanishingly small outside. The local magnetic ΓΏeld is produced by placing Dy pillar on top of a structure with a high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas. The e ect is found to be due to a sharp increase of the number of back-scattered and quasi-localised electron orbits. The possibility of localising electrons inside the magnetic inhomogeneity region is discussed.
