At high concentrations of acridizinium and N-methylacridinium salts in methanol (virtually complete dissociation) a differentiated quenching of fluorescence occurs, since a cation-cation and a cation-anion interaction exist in the excited state. The extent of the fluorescence quenching due to cation
The rate constants of fluorescence quenching of the acridizimum ion by alkyl bromides and iodides are determined by the donor behaviour (ionization potectial) of the quenchers. An encounter-CT complex is postulated, in which the quencher acts as an electron donor.
Intermolcsular charge-trnnsfer phosphorescence and fluorescence were observed for the biphenyl single crystal containing 1, 2,4,5tetracyanobenzcne as a guest. In addition, the delayed cliarge-transfer fluorescence due to triplcttrip!et annihilation wns observed for the first time.
