✦ Synopsis
In this letter, an LiNbO optical modulator using a 3 ( ) coupled coplanar wa¨eguide CPW with an SiO buffer layer is ana-2 lyzed accurately by incorporating the tra¨eling-wa¨e electrode thickness effect. The effect of coupled ground planes, electrode, and buffer layer thickness on the effecti¨e dielectric constant and characteristic impedance of coupled CPW electrode is discussed. Numerical computations show that increasing the width of the coupled ground planes can slightly impro¨e the phase ¨elocity mismatch between electric and optical wa¨es.
