✦ Synopsis
The effect of an esternal electric field on quantum tunneling in DNA was examined.
Zero field potentials for mrious extensions of the C-C bnsc were fL'st calculated.
The change in each of these potentials for three different electric fields was then obtained.
To find out if quantum tunneling would be increased with incrensinE electric field the 3.50 A extension was sclcctcd and energy levels and tunneling times were calculated for it. Upon comparing the tunneling times at the fist tunnrling lcvcls for the rhrec fields it was found that an increasing electric field did increase the tunneling mte.
