✦ Synopsis


For the exciton (e-, h'J confined to a sphere (a simple model for the light absorption of a small semiconductor particle) we calculate some of the electronic states. We use procedures similar to those for the two-electron atom. For radii R smaller than the 'exciton radius" simple oneconfiguration wavefunctions suffice. For larger R a more accurate description involving Hylleraas functions is required.
