โฆ Synopsis
A microscopic quantum mechanical theory of the Kapitza resistance between a nonmagnetic solid and liquid 3He is given, using the Landau theory of a Fermi liquid. For a simple model of the coupling potential the energy flow is separated into contributions due to the emission of zero-sound phonons and due to the inelastic scattering of single quasiparticles. A simple interpretation is given for the dominance of the coupling to zero-sound modes and comparison is made with the Boltzmann-equation treatment of Bekarevich and Khalatnikov. The change in the rate of thermal energy transfer on transition of 3He to the superfluid state is discussed.
