β¦ Synopsis
A central enigma of the heavy fermion metals is the dual behaviour of the f electrons which, at relatively short time scales, exhibit the properties expected of well-localised moments and, at very long time scales, in cooperation with other valence electrons at low temperatures, display the characteristics of massive itinerant carriers having a sharply defined Fermi surface. Detailed experimental support for the latter {long-time) cooperative behaviour of f electrons in U Pt 3 and CeRu2Si 2 has been furnished principally by studies of quantum oscilk,!ory phenomena. In this paper the information provided by these studies is summarised, and recent observations of the evolution of the quasipartiele band structure during the magnettsation process and at the metamagnetic transitions in these materials are described.

Foreign gas effects were measured for the rovibrational lines of \(\mathrm{NH}_{3}\) in the \(\nu_{2}\) band with \(\mathrm{O}_{2}\), \(\mathrm{N}_{2}\), and air as perturbers, using a high-resolution FTIR spectrometer. The observed line profiles were analyzed by the Voigt-type line profile function
