✦ Synopsis

Relativistic quantum electrodynamic perturbation theory is applied to the high-Z few-electron system. Interaction of the bound electrons with the radiation field is treated as a perturbation that results in the electron-electron interaction and radiative corrections. The leading perturbations, of order u, are examined. For two-electron atoms, a precise evaluation of the one-exchanged-photon correction in the 1 'So, 2 Sl, 2 Po, and 2 P2 states is made.
