โฆ Synopsis
Hcccivcd 27 October 1975 l3y the USC of the known Coulomb wavefunctions, "quantal" Coulomb strwmlines arc defined for the eikonal of the system. Conrplrisons of such streamlines with the clzsskxl Conlomh trzxjectories arc made. Use of such "c~unnturu" Coulomb strcamlincs is propod for reaction systems containing the Coulomb interaction I/. The derived equations of motion nre of particular USC for L.SCS where the residual potentid VI (VI = V -II) has either no clsssical forbidden region or has relatively small effects on trzjcctories. Rtlcent work on the semiclassical treatment of molcculm reactions has shown that t!le wzvc packets of the reaction system in certain cases behave essentially like: chssical particles. The cross sections obtained in the semiclassical treatment are encouraging if the clas-~&.A trajectories arc allowed to pass through the classically forbidden regions II 1.

Two types of semiclassical calculations have been used to study quantum effects in black hole backgrounds, the WKB and the mean field approaches. In this work we systematically reconstruct the logical implications of both methods on quantum black hole physics and provide the link between these two a
