Quantum beats are observed in stimulated emission of the B( II' =O) +X(0" = 1, v" =2) transition ofXeC1 with a period of 1.28 ps and a damping time of 12 ps. A molecular reorientation time of 1 ps is also clearly seen. These findings are in good agreement with known molecular data.

Molecular quantum beats are observed in the isotropic fluorescence decay following laser excitation of individual rotational states of CzNz via the vibronically allowed 4; A ( 'C; ) +g ( 'Cl ) transition near 2 19 nm. Strong quantum beats occur with selective excitation, by both P-and R-branch trans

With ultrashort pulses of less than 100 fs it is possible to excite coherently several vibrational modes of polyatomic molecules simultaneously. The femtosecond time resolution of the experiment allows the study of pronounced high-frequency beat phenomena up to 10 THz. The frequency difference betwe
