✦ Synopsis

A new type of aluminium in hydrothermally treated Y and ZSM-5 zeolites has been detected by high-field "Al NMR, using very fast sample spinning and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopic techniques. From the isotropic chemical shift the fourfold coordination, and from the line intensity the non-framework nature, of this new aluminium-oxygen species are established.
