## Abstract A simple and versatile method was developed for detecting endoproteinases by nondenaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. A vertical strip of the resolving gel is subjected horizontally to a second electrophoresis in the presence of a substrate protein and sodium dodecyl sulfate (S

β¦ Synopsis
A one-step procedure for the detection of &producing enzymes in polyacrylamide and agarose gels was developed using PPi hydrolysis by inorganic pyrophosphatase as a model reaction. The color reagent consists of acid molybdate, methyl green, and Triton X-305 and produces sharp greenish-blue bands in places of Pi accumulation. The color is stable and its intensity is linearily related to enzyme amounts in the gel. 0 1985 Academic press.

Swelling behavior of polyacrylamide (PAAm) and polyacrylamide-co-polyacrylic acid (PAAm-co-PAAc) gels was investigated in aqueous solutions of monodisperse PAAms with molecular weights ( M V w ) ranging from 1.5 1 10 3 to 5 1 10 6 g/mol. The volume of the gels decreases as the PAAm concentration in
