β¦ Synopsis
Diffuse myocardial fibrosis in hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is not readily detected by conventional late gadolinium enhanced CMR. Our study was aimed to detect diffuse myocardial fibrosis in these patients as compared to age matched normal controls, using a T1 mapping technique. Fibrosis was quantified by calculating the partition coefficient (Ξ») and volume of distribution (Vd) of gadolinium (Gd) following a bolus injection of Gd. We observed that the values for Ξ» and Vd were higher in LVH than controls. A positive association was also noted between LV mass and Ξ».
