✦ Synopsis

Several methods have been utilized to compare drosopterin content of various species and strains of Drosophila. Drosopterins are complex red pteridines concentrated mainly in the eyes of adult flies of Drosophila and closely related genera. The methods include: (1) chemical extraction and spectrophotometric determinations (1, 2) ; (2) chromatography and visual estimates including comparisons with color charts (3, 4) ; (3) chromatography and fluorometric determination
