β¦ Synopsis
This article presents a rationale for the addition of psychological counseling in the treatment of persons with medical illnesses. Empirical data on the mindβbody connection are presented, and I. Pollin's (1995) Medical Crisis Counseling model is outlined as an example of an effective intervention. The authors discuss the issues and counseling techniques related to the model within the frameworks of individual, group, and family counseling; use case studies to illustrate intervention strategies; and suggest implications for future research and training.
