In this present day of PSRO involvement in medicine and of extensive discussions of quality control in medicine, we are confronted with questions as to what methods should be used by American cardiology today to insure quality performance in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. There has been an enormous proliferation of cardiac catheterization laboratories. Twenty-five years ago such laboratories were found predominantly in university hospitals. Catheterization laboratories were then opened in many medical centers and large hospitals which were either secondarily involved or not involved at all with university teaching centers.
