A concise introduction is presented to the theory and application of quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometry. The presentation of the theoretical treatment is based on a demonstration of the equivalence of the force acting on an ion in a quadrupole Γeld and the force derived from the Mathieu equation

β¦ Synopsis
The fullerenes C,, and C,, can be ionized by desorption from a liquid matrix upon bombardment by Cs' ions of 7 keV kinetic energy. The resulting radical cations, when activated in the ion trap by collisions with Xe target, in the presence of helium, undergo extensive dissociation by loss of multiple C, units. Large internal energies are deposited into these molecular ions and the dissociation emciency is in excess of 60%.

## Abstract The fragmentation of heterocyclic amines (HAs) in an ion trap was studied by means of the infusion of methanolic solutions containing the compounds under assay, and using an atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) as ion source. The MS^__n__^ spectra obtained for compounds inclu
This paper is a presentation of recent key developments in quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometry. These key developments have been made in three areas; namely, the trapping of ions generated externally to the ion trap, the fine control of the trajectories of ions confined within the ion trap, and th
Experiments to perform mass spectrometry with ion traps of submillimeter dimension are described. Several trap geometries amenable to microfabrication have been explored. In these experiments, vaporphase molecules were ionized by a pulse from a frequency-quadrupled Nd:YAG laser. The ions were trappe
The use of electrospray ionization-quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometry for the characterization of linear oligosaccharides and N-linked protein oligosaccharide mixtures is described. Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) experiments with orders higher than two offer a number of ways to enhance MS/MS sp
A method is described for identifying serine phosphorylation sites in proteins, based on conventional 32 P labeling followed by electrophoretic separation, 'in-gel' digestion with a protease, peptide extraction, reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic separation and collection and off
