โœฆ Synopsis

A new set of values of the fundamental constants, based on a recent least-squares adjustment, has been recommended by CODATA. An overview of the experiments and theory that influence the values of the new set of constants will be given. Quantum electrodynamic (QED) theory plays a significant role in determining these constants and the consistency of the values obtained from various sources of information provides an important test of the theory.

We discuss the fundamental constants in the Standard Model of particle physics. Furthermore we discuss possible changes of these constants on the cosmological time scale. The Grand Unification of the observed strong, electromagnetic and weak interactions implies relations between the time variations
