## Abstract **BACKGROUND:** R‐mandelic acid is an important chiral pharmaceutical intermediate, which is commonly obtained by biotransformation. This work has focused on using novel chiral recognition technology, aqueous two‐phase extraction, for the chiral separation of mandelic acid. **RESULTS:*
