β¦ Synopsis
Purealidin D. a new alkaloid possessing a pyridinium and a bromotyrosine moiety was isolated from the Okinawan marine sponge Psammaplysilla purea and the structure elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. Among a variety of nitrogenous natural products from marine sponges, a number of brominated tyrosine-derived alkaloids have been isolated from species of the family Verongidae.1 We have also isolated several bioactive bromotyrosine metabolites from the Okinawan marine sponge Psammuplysillu pure& During our studies on bioactive substances from Okinawan marine organisms,4 extracts of P. purea were further investigated to isolate purealidin D (l), a new Na +, K+-ATPase inhibitory alkaloid containing a pyridinium and a bromotyrosine unit.
