✦ Synopsis
The pulsed field ionization zero kinetic energy photoelectron spectroscopy technique has been used to determine accurate ionization potentials for the small metal clusters V, and V,. Direct single-photon laser ionization was used. Assignment of the carrier of the photoionization spectra is aided by the velocity slip of the seeded cluster beam which provides a degree of mass separation in the neutral cluster molecules prior to ionization and, thereby, the ability to cross-correlate the PFI-ZEKE spectra with particular cluster species.
