✦ Synopsis
A pulsatory mode of combustion of heavy hydrocarbons occurring in the parametric zone of cool flames is described, provided that a liquid phase re.mains in contact with the vapor. Observations show extensive oscillations consisting of periodical bursts of material from the surface into the gas phase. These oscillations resemble those observed previously with fused polypropylene and termed multiple secondary cool flames (MSCF). This phenomenon has been examined for a wide range of heavy hydrocarbons, and the influence of various physical panun~rs has been considered through the effect on the self-ignition diagrams.
