Research, in its many forms, is an essential tool for the counseling profession. Data generated by counseling research allow practitioners and educators to (a) explore effective interventions for addressing the increasingly complex worlds of their clients (McLeod, 1999;Whiston, 1996); (b) glean evidence of their clinical effectiveness (King & Otis, 2004;Lundervold & Belwood, 2000;Rowell, 2005); and (c) generate alternatives to interventions from other disciplines that may be inconsistent with our developmental, ecological, multicultural, and advocacy-based traditions (Guiffrida & Douthit, 2010).
