It is encouraging to see the recent advances in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. For example, on a trip to Moscow, I was priviledged to sit in on a discussion between Soviet and American psychologists and war veterans about what they can learn from each other in working with PTSD. Sometimes when I hear such discussions, however, I note a tendency toward simplistic or reductionistic models of psychopathology that then invite therapeutic interventions based primarily on medication, catharsis, deconditioning, or support. I certainly have nothing against these approaches: AU except medication are important parts of my own work as a psychotherapist. And I recognize that drugs also sometimes help people. But I am concerned
