Bio-transesterification
Kansai Chemical Engineering Co, in collaboration with Kobe University, is developing a process for making biodiesel from waste vegetable oils. A lipase enzyme is used, immobilised on a porous polyurethane support. This converts the oils to mixed methyl esters of fatty acids.
